Our team knows how to get things done.

Our PSA United team has consistently demonstrated commitment, strength, and expertise in representing PSA members across the public sector. With your support, we will continue to stand up and fight for wage justice and improvements to conditions.

We are growing membership numbers, building member power and activism at worksites, and achieving member-led wins for workers.

This hasn’t happened by chance, and it hasn’t happened overnight.

It has taken foresight, strategic planning, experience, dedication and long term commitment to get to where we are today.

We have been able to achieve these results because we understand the principles and values of unionism and collective action. We know that united we win - divided we lose.

We listen to our members – and always put members first.

Under our leadership:

  • PSA membership is growing consistently for the first time in decades. We are:

    • Organising to build real member power

    • Campaigning around members’ issues

    • Empowering Worksite Representatives and members

    • Fighting for what’s important to you

    • Implementing – and seeing the benefits of – our long-term strategy for sustainable, ongoing growth to increase the influence of the PSA and the power of members in workplaces to achieve wins

  • Worksite Representatives (WSRs) are well-resourced and strongly supported in their crucial work for members. Worksite Representatives are critical to the success of our union. We have further strengthened our WSR structures; introduced our WSR Charter and other WSR-specific tools and resources; and continued our structured WSR training and development program to ensure WSRs are confident and well-resourced to support PSA members.

  • Our Organising Team has been enhanced in size, capability and experience. The team is more dedicated and capable than ever when it comes to working to support Worksite Representatives and members to build member power and activism. More Organisers are on the ground more often, visiting worksites and developing member strength across South Australia. The result is a growing union, and consistently increasing member engagement and workplace activism.

  • We are fighting for wage justice – pursuing significant improvements to wages and conditions in Enterprise Agreement negotiations

    • We have a proven track record of listening to our members to identify your priorities for negotiations – and relentlessly pursue them

    • We have not, and will not, compromise on your rights and conditions. Agreements like the Salaried Agreement contain hundreds of conditions and protections that took many years to achieve, including some of the strongest job security protections in Australia

    • As authors and stewards of these conditions, we will protect them while advancing your interests and fighting to achieve the pay outcome you need and deserve. Our principles in any negotiation are to build on past achievements, to protect the conditions we have and make improvements for the future

    • With the fight for a new Salaried Agreement currently in full swing, we are working to deliver the largest pay rise in the history of the Salaried Agreement for some 40,000 public servants – while protecting and improving all rights and conditions

  • Successful large-scale campaigns have had significant positive impacts for our members and broader community, such as our recent campaign to save the SA Museum from disastrous cuts.

  • Ongoing and successful advocacy against privatisation has resulted in reversal of privatisation decisions, a Parliamentary Inquiry into Privatisation in South Australia, and securing significant government commitments to prevent further privatisation of our public sector.

  • Work Health and Safety has been a major focus of our union, including resourcing and supporting local Health and Safety Representatives to stand up against unsafe practices at work.

  • We have developed, won and successfully defended strong protections for members – including ensuring your rights to consultation, job security, and protection against unreasonable workloads.

  • Consultative structures have been established in worksites to ensure members’ voices are heard on important workplace issues including safety and workloads.

  • Government Ministers have regularly been put in front of PSA Worksite Representatives, to make sure they hear directly from members – not just filtered messages from departmental management.

  • We have continued to build and strengthen alliances within the union movement and the wider community, enabling us to advocate more effectively for what is important to PSA members. This includes taking our fight for a well-resourced Child Protection system all the way to Canberra, raising it as a national issue and piloting this approach to be used for other areas of our membership going forward.

  • Fierce political independence and the fearless pursuit of PSA members’ interests have driven our leadership regardless of which political party has been in government. The PSA is proudly politically unaffiliated – and will continue to be if we are re-elected. We are confident and experienced in strongly advocating for members no matter who we are talking to.

  • Our media engagement – including in television, radio and print – has been consistently and professionally managed in the interests of our members to send clear messages to the government and generate broader public awareness and support for members’ issues.

  • Member training programs (including new professional development courses, union-specific and WSR training) have been improved and expanded, with new program development continuing, based on member suggestions and feedback. Working with our federal entity, we are also in the process of establishing a specialised online platform which will soon provide all members with access to quality information and training across a wide range of industrial, professional and personal development topics.

  • Regional members have been supported through our regularly scheduled regional visits, as well as more regular online meetings to keep members connected.

  • We have engaged with members to further improve our long-running PSA Review magazine, and have expanded the PSA’s social media presence to spread our union’s message more effectively.

  • PSA member benefits have been improved and expanded, providing more options and better accessibility – including for members in the regions.

  • PSA member networks (including our Women’s Network, Young Member Network, Aboriginal Member Network and AHP Network) have brought members from across the public sector together to plan collectively how to tackle issues impacting them, and to help us ensure our union is always guided by direct member input.

  • The PSA’s finances and assets have been managed responsibly, ensuring we only spend members’ resources in their best interests – never at the whim of political masters. Under our leadership the PSA’s finances have been, and will continue to be, kept secure.

  • Our internal union governance processes have been reviewed and improved to ensure compliance with all legislation and to improve accountability and transparency.

  • Our union has remained strong in the face of significant challenges, with member engagement and activism building every day.

The PSA has come a long way under our leadership. Member-led activism is increasing by the day and we have set up our union for sustainable growth.

We need to keep moving forward by:

  • continuing to grow our membership and build activism at worksites

  • keeping focused on what matters to members

  • growing and strengthening our Worksite Representatives’ network

  • remaining politically unaffiliated and fearless in our pursuit of members’ interests

  • staying strong and united

We have achieved much already – but there is still more to do.

Re-electing our team will ensure we build on these proud achievements and keep the PSA safe, strong, effective, independent and resilient into the future.
