A powerful voice for our members
Our union is strong and can keep growing stronger if we re-elect a leadership team that listens to members and takes on the issues that matter to you.
Natasha and Christian’s team brings the right mix of experience, energy, innovation – and demonstrated commitment to union values – to the difficult task of running a union for all members.
In our PSA United team, members have a powerful voice and an experienced team to fight for your rights and conditions at work.
Our Leadership
Natasha Brown
BHSc, MPH, GAICD
Secretary
Natasha has been PSA Secretary since 2022, having previously served as PSA Assistant Secretary from 2015.
In addition to her role as PSA Secretary, Natasha represents our union nationally as an Executive member of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU). She is Federal Vice-President of the CPSU (SPSF Group), and has been active in the leadership of our federal union for 12 years. Natasha has been Vice-President (Women) of SA Unions since 2020 and is Chair of the SA Unions Women’s Standing Committee.
Natasha has many years of experience in union leadership at all levels, including ten years of union operational management. She was an active PSA member, PSA Worksite Representative, Councillor, Vice-President and Federal Councillor before taking up the responsibilities of a full-time elected official in 2015.
Natasha is driven by a fierce commitment to union values, and a clear vision for a strong and well-resourced SA public sector. She is passionate about fighting privatisation and promoting the importance and value of public services, and advocates strongly for members using well-researched evidence-based and values-based principles.
She has formal training and extensive hands-on experience in union governance and management, as well as experience in both the theory and practice of union organising and leading campaigns.
Achievements under Natasha’s leadership include significant and successful campaigns to protect public services and members’ jobs; building and promoting member-led activism at worksites; developing and supporting strong and effective Worksite Representatives structures; modernising the PSA to prepare for the fights of today and the future; establishing our current Organising Team and setting our union up to achieve sustainable growth.
Natasha is not, and never has been, a member of any political party. She has always been wholly and solely focused on advocating for the benefit of PSA members, regularly lobbying all sides of politics in her unwavering pursuit of members’ priorities.
Natasha has demonstrated a long-term commitment to our union and PSA members. Natasha’s leadership of the PSA has focused on building member power for the long-term success and sustainability of our union. Only a strong and sustainable union can provide the support members need – now and into the future.
Christian Hagivassilis
BSSc (Hons)
Assistant Secretary
Christian has been PSA Assistant Secretary since 2022, previously serving as a PSA Vice President, Councillor and active Worksite Representative.
With a background as an intelligence analyst, Christian takes a strategic and solution-focused approach to union leadership and was a strong voice for members on PSA Council and Executive before being appointed as Assistant Secretary.
Christian has many years of experience representing members as a Worksite Representative, both while working at SAPOL and the Environment Protection Authority. Some of Christian’s achievements as a Worksite Representative include amplifying the voice of unsworn staff at SAPOL, representing members during restructures and enterprise bargaining, and increasing union density at his worksite from 25% to 80%.
Christian is not, and never has been, a member of any political party. He is a firm believer that loyalty matters, and that unions (and union leaders) must be unwavering and fearless in their pursuit of members’ best interests - and only members’ best interests.
As Assistant Secretary, Christian has taken a direct leadership role with the PSA Organising team, providing high level oversight and coordination to improve member outcomes, with a focus on membership growth and building power in worksites. This organising work has been central to increasing PSA member engagement and activism in recent years, including an almost 2-year trend towards sustainable membership growth that has set our union on a trajectory for a bright future.
Our Council team
Making sure we have an experienced and member-driven team running our union is important.
All of our team’s candidates have proven track records representing members as Worksite Representatives, Councillors and Vice-Presidents. Our current Councillors have completed formal training in union governance and have extensive practical experience in navigating complex regulatory requirements to safeguard our union and ensure we maintain accountability, transparency and good governance.
The PSA is a diverse union. Our PSA United Council team represents a wide range of occupations and professions and brings a diversity of experiences and perspectives. This gives us the strength and depth to understand the issues facing members who work in different regions and agencies across the SA public sector.
We are confident in the commitment, experience and skill of our leadership and our entire Council team.
